Thank you for your interest in my products. My name is Ed Moore, the founder and owner of Artistry in Wood. What you see within the pages of this website is the result of a lifetime of interest in wood and wood made products. After retiring from a successful career with The Boeing Company I've finally found the time to invest fully in my true passion. The meticulous nature of my career in aerospace testing has noticeably transferred to my wood work and hopefully you'll appreciate the quality of the artwork I produce.
My shop is located in the building that was constructed to entertain my wife's true passion of horses. I was able to convince her that the horse barn could stand for a new addition and was delighted when she agreed to let me build a 24 x 24 addition to construct my woodshop. Nowadays I'm more than likely to be found within the walls of my shop, contemplating the next cut or turn in transforming ordinary wood into the artwork you'll see within these pages. Countless hours can be spent in the wee hours of the morning simply looking at a block of wood, waiting for the wood to talk and give me an indication of its final intended form.
Most of the wood that I use is found locally throughout the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Using many contacts and sometimes just pure luck I'm able to procure wood primarily from trees selected by arborists to be taken down. All of the local wood that you'll see on these pages has been cut, shaped, aged and turned by me. Occasionally you'll find a specimen not locally found such as Texas Mesquite and various other exotic hardwoods that I just couldn't resist procuring and working with. If a question ever arises as to the origin of a piece, please email me with questions and I'd be happy to give you the history.
I've become a member of several woodworking organizations including the Northwest Woodworkers Guild and the Seattle Chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. I've learned a great deal in my years of woodturning, with the greatest lesson being that there is always more to learn. I put great effort and pride into all of my creations and I hope you find a piece that gives you just as much enjoyment as I've had in creating it.
